Dave became my coach and mentor.

He's one of the most important factors in my professional success.

Back in 2009 I took the position as President of XDIN, a smaller engineering company based in Virginia.

At the time I had experience from leadership roles, but the complete responsibility as CEO/President was new to me. Especially the financial side when it comes to accounting, taxes, salaries etc.

Also, me coming from Sweden to the US added another layer of unknowns to me in my role and duties.

When I took over the company we were about 30 employees. I was at the time the only administrative employee and everyone else were engineers working on product development projects.

To me it was crucial to tie tight bonds with a few advisors in order to support my vision with the company. For me to succeed in growing my business with confidence I needed a safety net that both helped my fill the gaps in my abilities, and also helped develop myself and free up my time.

For me that safety net was four people. One of the most important was Dave Johnson.

Dave had already been guiding XDIN since the company was founded in the late nineties. Handling bookkeeping, taxes and business consulting.

Dave became so much more than just a CPA to me.

Of course, the function of bookkeeping, tax returns, salaries and annual audits is important. And Dave handled that for us flawlessly with his firm.

But even more important to me were the discussions Dave and I had on a weekly and sometimes daily basis regarding my future strategy.

• How could we work more efficiently?
• What can we learn from other companies’ success or failures?
• How to put together the most attractive offer to our own employees while still maximizing profits to our stockholders?
• How to structure agreements with our clients and suppliers?
• And what could I, as a leader, develop in myself?

I could always count on Dave to give me true advice and to drop everything and give me priority when I needed it.

Dave became my coach and mentor, and one of the most important factors in my professional success. And a real friend that I could talk with about any topic.

We worked together for 7 years, and my business grew from 30 to 200 employees. From presence in 4 states to around 15 states around the country, with the complexity that comes with that.

Dave is still today supporting XDIN. Now for over 20 years we have had a long-term commitment and scalable level of service.

I have since moved back to Sweden and am now leading our parent company here.

Today, when I coach other leaders in our company I always advise them to surround themselves with a few mentors, using the relation Dave and I have as a great example.
